WORCESTER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE

Karen L Troy, PhD, CBDT, is a Professor of Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Her research focuses on the interaction between skeletal loading and bone adaptation. She uses a combination of medical imaging, computational modeling, and biomechanical techniques to better understand the consequences of disuse osteoporosis, healthy physiologic adaptation, and overuse injury in healthy and clinical populations including individuals with spinal cord injury and those participating in various sports. She developed patient-specific modeling and quantitative image analysis techniques to evaluate clinical interventions that target bone health, and has worked with several task forces to develop bone density screening and clinical practice guidelines specific to individuals with spinal cord injury.
