Dr. Gordon is a pediatrician with training in both adolescent medicine and pediatric endocrinology. She has a long-time interest in pediatric and adolescent bone health, and in particular, how nutrition impacts hormonal axes to ultimately influence bone health. She recently began a new position as Clinical Director and Senior Investigator in the Division of Intramural Research at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute for Child Health and Human Development. She has been actively involved in clinical care (with focus on bone health), clinical/translational research, scientific mentoring, and medical education throughout her career. Over the past two decades, Dr. Gordon has led an independently funded research group with support from the NIH, Department of Defense, and private foundations. She is interested in modifiable factors during adolescence that influence bone density and other aspects of health during the adult years, and ways to optimize the transition of healthcare for young adults. Disease models her group has studied include anorexia nervosa, premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), and inflammatory bowel disease, among others. She has a special interest in the assessment of bone density and bone marrow composition in pediatric chronic disease groups.
