Activity Description

DXA is critical to the assessment and management of patients with osteoporosis. We will review the current evidence on the benefits and limitations of serial DXA assessment in clinical practice.

Learning Objectives:

1. List ISCD positions related to least significant change (LSC) for monitoring BMD change. 2. Explain the benefits and controversies in BMD monitoring of untreated patients. 3. Explain the benefits and controversies in BMD monitoring of patients receiving anti-osteoporosis therapy.

Instructions:

Clinicians and Technologists are required to answer a set of online test questions following the review of the video and will have up to three attempts to answer questions correctly before losing credit for the activity. Once the activity test has been passed (75% or higher), you will be asked to evaluate the activity online and then be allowed to claim credit and print certificates.

Dr. Leslie is Professor of Medicine and Radiology at the University of Manitoba with over 550 peer-reviewed publications.  His research interests are in fracture risk assessment, osteoporosis testing and nuclear diagnostic techniques.  He is Past President of the International Society for Clinical Densitometry, Past Chair of the Osteoporosis Canada Scientific Advisory Council, and Director of the Manitoba Bone Density Program.
