Review DXA Atlas/Understanding Complex Scans (hard DXA cases)

A discussion on the purpose of the DXA Atlas and how to navigate the portal. The benefits to technologists and how they can use the DXA Atlas to better understand acquisition and analysis of difficult DXA scans. Step-by-step review of the correct procedures so technologists can upload unique DXA scans to the Atlas.  

OBJECTIVES
  1. Explain how to access and use the Atlas.
  2. Demonstrate understanding of acquisition and analysis of difficult scans.
  3. Recall the ability to upload unique DXA scans.

Successful completion of this session qualifies for 1 ASRT Category A continuing education credit.

Emerita Medical Director

University of Alabama at Birmingham Osteoporosis Prevention and Treatment Clinic and Bone Densitometry (DXA) Service

Dr. Morgan is the Emerita Medical Director of the University of Alabama at Birmingham Osteoporosis Prevention and Treatment Clinic and the Emerita Director UAB Bone Densitometry (DXA) Service.  The UAB DXA service is accredited by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry.  She received degrees in Food and Nutrition and Dietetics and Food and Nutrition and Related Sciences at Iowa State University and completed medical school and an internal medicine internship and residency at the University of Iowa.  She completed a Clinical Nutrition fellowship and a master’s degree in clinical nutrition at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She currently is an Emerita Professor of Medicine and Nutrition Sciences in the Division of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology at UAB.  Dr. Morgan’s research interests are in the areas of folate and methotrexate metabolism in rheumatoid arthritis (she described the use of folic acid supplements to lower the toxicity of low-dose methotrexate therapy for rheumatoid arthritis) and bone densitometry and she participates in osteoporosis and DXA clinical trials in the UAB Osteoporosis Clinic.  Dr. Morgan is a past President of the International Society for Clinical Densitometry and past chair of the Education Council.  She is a current instructor of Osteoporosis Essentials course and is a member of the Accreditation committee and chair of the DXA Atlas Committee. Dr. Morgan enjoys swimming, bicycling, knitting, needlepoint, lost wax casting, and making stained glass windows.  She is an avid baker.
