Activity approved for up to 1.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™
Activity Expires July 24, 2025

Activity Description

The fracture risk assessment tool, FRAX ®, was released in 2008. It provides country-specific tools for estimating personalized 10-year probability of hip and major osteoporotic fracture (hip, clinical spine, distal forearm, and proximal humerus). Several adjustments have been developed that extend the range of risk factors considered by FRAX, now available through FRAXplus (www.FRAXplus.org). Meanwhile, there is ongoing research that will inform the next iteration of the FRAX tool.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Summarize the development of the FRAX tool, including its strength and limitations.
  2. Understand adjustments to FRAX that permit incorporation of additional risk factor information.
  3. Explain the clinical impact and application of FRAXplus and, eventually, FRAX-2 on clinical decision-making.

Instructions:

Clinicians and Technologists are required to answer a set of online test questions following the review of the video and will have up to three attempts to answer questions correctly before losing credit for the activity. Once the activity test has been passed (75% or higher), you will be asked to evaluate the activity online and then be allowed to claim credit and print certificates.
