Activity Description

Transgender and gender diverse (TGD) people are at increased risk for bone loss due to changes in their hormonal milieu. The ISCD recommends screening for low bone density in TGD people especially in those who are at high risk for bone loss and/or may not reach peak bone mass. This case-based session will discuss different clinical situations where bone density screening should be performed and when treatment should be considered.

Learning Objectives:

1. Review ISCD guidelines for screening for low bone density in transgender and gender diverse people.
2. List conditions that might put transgender and gender diverse people at increased risk for bone loss.
3. Discuss potential treatment options for transgender and gender diverse people.

Instructions:

Clinicians and Technologists are required to answer a set of online test questions following the review of the video and will have up to three attempts to answer questions correctly before losing credit for the activity. Once the activity test has been passed (75% or higher), you will be asked to evaluate the activity online and then be allowed to claim credit and print certificates.
