Activity Description
This activity was designed to allow learners to understand new technologies for the assessment of bone strength. Attendees can listen to a cogent, clear, concise and well-referenced lecture after which they will understand BMD limitations and the future role of new technologies.
Learning Objectives:
1. Identify the limitations of DXA in estimating bone quality.
2. Examine the relationship between radiographic imaging and bone strength.
3. Discuss the role of new technologies in skeletal assessment.
Instructions:
Clinicians and Technologists are required to answer a set of online test questions following the review of the video and will have up to three attempts to answer questions correctly before losing credit for the activity. Once the activity test has been passed (75% or higher), you will be asked to evaluate the activity online and then be allowed to claim credit and print certificates.

Nicholas Pocock graduated with honours in medicine from Sydney University in 1978. In 1987 he became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians and in 1989 gained his Doctorate in Medicine. He is currently a Senior Staff Specialist in the Department of Nuclear Medicine at St Vincent’s Hospital, Darlinghurst, Sydney and Associate Professor at the University of NSW. He is also director of of Chatswood Densitometry in Sydney. Dr Pocock’s research interests include the epidemiology of osteoporosis and diagnostic measurements used in osteoporosis. He is co-convenor and chairs the bi-annual ANZBMS Densitometry Course since its inception in 2007. Dr Pocock’s work has resulted in membership of many working parties and clinical advisory groups to State and National medical and Government bodies, and to national and international medical publications. He has over 140 articles on osteoporosis and bone densitometry and is currently on the Scientific Advisory Committees of the IOF, ISCD, ANZBMS and Healthy Bones Australia.
