Activity Description

Treatments for Osteoporosis: Combination or Sequence? Does Order Matter?

Learning Objectives

  1. The attendee should understand that anabolic treatment is most effective when given ab initio, before antiresorptive treatment
  2. The attendee should understand that anabolic treatments must be followed by antiresorptives to avoid losing all the gain
  3. The attendee should understand that with certain specific exceptions, antiresorptives should not be given concurrently with anabolics.

Instructions

Clinicians and Technologists are required to answer a set of online test questions following the review of the video and will have up to three attempts to answer questions correctly before losing credit for the activity. Once the activity test has been passed (75% or higher), you will be asked to evaluate the activity online and then be allowed to claim credit and print certificates.

Nelson B. Watts, MD, FACP, MACE, CCD, currently serves as Director of Osteoporosis and Bone Health Services for Mercy Health, an integrated health system in Cincinnati, Ohio. He has a long career in osteoporosis research at Emory University and the University of Cincinnati. He has served as President of the American College of Endocrinology, President of the International Society of Clinical Densitometry, Chair of the FDA’s Advisory Committee for Endocrine and Metabolic Drugs and on the ABIM subspecialty board in Endocrinology and Metabolism. He is active in numerous professional organizations and serves on several editorial boards. He has published numerous, books, book chapters, abstracts and articles in such journals as the New England Journal of Medicine and the Journal of the American Medical Association.
