The ISCD periodically holds Position Development Conferences (PDCs)in which a panel of experts make recommendations based on reviews of scientific literature by specific task forces. In 2019 the PDC Monitoring Serial Bone Measures with DXA Task Force convened to assess if and when BMD by DXA should be repeated. The outcome of this PDC was the 2019 Official Positions of the ISCD. This activity aims to provide learners with the most current, evidence-based practice guidelines for assessing skeletal health so they may begin utilizing them in their clinical practice.
Clinicians must be aware of the research and evidence that clarifies if and when BMD should be repeated so they may collect crucial information for patient management. Clinicians must know how to incorporate changes to clinical recommendations, supported by evidence, to enhance the engagement of their patients and care providers in their osteoporosis management.
